Appears unread, with micro-chips , creases to extremities typical of pulp fiction paperbacks of this age, pages are clean, bright and binding tight. Overall a about fine copy. Scarce signature on the copyright page of The Quaking Widow by author Robert Colby. This is the first novel by author Robert Colby and considered one of his best. Colby wrote at least 17 novels and numerous short stories including Ace Doubles; In a Vanishing Room, Kill Me a Fortune, Murder Mistress, Gold Medal books; The Captain Must Die, The Deadly Desire, Secret of the Second Door, The Star Trap. Colby was a regular contributor to Alfred Hitchcock's Mystery Magazine from the 1960s-1980s. Bound with the novel The Deep End by Owen Dudley who also went by the names Dudley Dean and Dean Owen, he was a prolific author who began writing dime novel westerns in the 1930s for pulp magazines; Cowboy Stories, Thrilling Western, Ranch Romances, Action Stories, Complete Western Book and many more pulp magazines of the day. He wrote in several genres including crime noir, detective fiction and adult soft core "sleaze" fiction under the name Dean McCoy, many books were published for Beacon Books including Sexbound and The Friendship Club. Kornbluth & Judith Merril, Sam Merwin, Jr. and many more authors including A.E. Van Vogt. With micro chips to extremities and mild creases typical of pulp fiction books of this age, otherwise appears unread, pages are bright, clean and binding tight. Colors on cover and type on spine still vibrant and punchy. Conrad Barnaby was a world famous writer, bullfighter, boxer, night club owner, pianist and painter. Signed and inscribed by Barnaby Conrad to L.A. journalist Nick Beck, "For mi amigo Nick, from Barnabé[y]". Signed on the ffep with the last letter of his name written as é instead of y which he seldom did.His very first novel about an American diplomat in love with a gypsy and about the violence and danger of the bull ring. Hewrote the second novel, a classic 1952 book titled "Matador" which John Steinbeck said was the best book written that year. His night club in San Francisco, El Matador, hosted many famous celebrities and he was friends with Ernest Hemingway. He is the only American to battle bulls in all three countries of Spain, Mexico and Peru. Newspaper clipping of provenance included. Beautiful GGA cover art. Classic romantic, adventure pulp and scarce signed collectible. As of this writing today this is the only known signed copy of this paperback by Barnaby Conrad.
